Nutcracker in the Castle this Saturday/Sunday and have Cupcakes with the Sugar Plum Fairy

There is still time to see Valley Academy for the Arts dancers this Saturday and Sunday at the Nutcracker in the Castle at the Paine Arts Center and Gardens in Oshkosh WI.

Guests are invited to visit the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Cupcake Café for a scrumptious treat with the Sugar Plum Fairy herself as hostess!  The café serves cupcakes and hot cocoa in a fairyland setting within the Paine’s conservatory. No reservation is necessary to visit the café; please note the café hours and coordinate visits before or after Nutcracker tours accordingly. Cupcakes are made by Tamara’s the Cake Guru.

‘Nutcracker Suite’

The Verona Youth Ballet will perform its 10th annual rendition of the “Nutcracker Suite” at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the Verona Area High School Performing Arts Center at 300 Richard St.

In 2005, the first year of the performance, a cast of just three dancers appeared. Now, the one-hour production will feature a cast of 70 dancers – “children, adults, amateurs and a number of seasoned professionals” from 10 area dance studies, according to the Verona Youth Ballet website.

Her choreography, along with her academic reputation, is one of the reasons Li is one of the most recognized names in Madison’s dance world. Her company, Li Chiao-Ping Dance, is an Overture Center resident company, and this season is observing 20 years of performing its inventive modern dance works in the city.

The upcoming concert “armature: in media res,” which Li Chiao-Ping Dance performs Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Overture’s Promenade Hall, will take the audience through much of Li’s career.
