Li Chiao-Ping Dance and the UW-Madison Dance Department present Fluid Measure Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m., and March 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave., Madison.
The concert title comes from Artistic Director Li Chiao-Ping’s new work, “Fluid Measure,†which examines questions of identity and kinship. The piece draws its depth from an integrated cast of company dancers and community performers. Li will also showcase works from her repertory including “Untitled,†created in collaboration with Forrest Fang and inspired by the Chinese folk tale The Bridge of Chuan-Chou; “Mandala,†a solo that reviewers have dubbed “a meditation;†and “Chi,†a powerful and moving piece with choreographic roots in the martial arts that investigates what it means to identify with more than one culture.
Madison audiences will get the rare treat to see work by New York-based guest artist Heidi Latsky, who will present “ON DISPLAY†in the theater lobby before the concert. This renowned installation explores the body as a spectacle, society’s obsession with body image and the reclaiming of self image.
