Why don’t they make shoes for black ballet dancers?

Eric Underwood is a soloist with the Royal Ballet. While on tour in Italy last summer Underwood posted a video of himself “pancaking” his ballet slippers with make-up before a performance and questioning why there are no ballet slippers for black dancers.

Since then Bloch has been working with Underwood and developed a shoe in the the color they are calling “Eric Tan.”

“The simple acknowledgment that there’s a need for a new flesh tone is groundbreaking in the world of ballet,” Underwood explains. He hopes other manufacturers will follow suit.
