The John Michael Kohler Arts Center Presents, Odeon, By Ephrat Asherie Dance on October 18, 2018!
The Evening Perfomance begins at 7:30pm
Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Led by The Boston Globe’s “bona fide b-girl,” Ephrat Asherie Dance performs Odeon, a high energy, hybrid dance layering breaking, hip-hop, house, and vogue. This work explores connections between these street and club dances and what happens when you bring them together, pick them apart, and remix them.
An original dance work for seven dancers and four musicians, Odeon is the second collaboration between sister and brother team Ephrat and Ehud Asherie. It is set to the buoyant music of Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth, known for mixing European harmonies with African rhythms.
Asherie and the company have earned praise for artistry and innovation. Asherie received the 2016 Bessie Award for Outstanding Performer. The company’s first evening-length work, A Single Ride, earned two Bessie nominations in 2013 for Outstanding Emerging Choreographer and Outstanding Sound Design by Marty Beller. Since 1984, the Bessies have saluted groundbreaking work by independent dance artists in New York City.
A social gathering with Ephrat Asherie Dance follows the performance.
$20 ($15 member)
