Tania Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance Showcase & Sevillanas Fiesta!

You are invited to a showcase of flamenco dance in an informal setting featuring the students of Tania Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance.  Come join us also for sevillanas dancing and refreshments to celebrate the holiday season!

Tania Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance Spring Class Schedule 2019
January 7- April 27

Classes are held at Kanopy Dance Studio, 341 State St. 2nd Floor above the GAP, Madison, Wisconsin, unless noted otherwise.

All classes will include instruction in flamenco dance technique, which includes footwork, arm and hand work, rhythmic hand-clapping and turns.

Classes are open to both women and men. Partners are not necessary. Dancers 12 years of age and up are welcome in the general classes.

THERE WILL BE A $10 DISCOUNT FOR PAYMENT RECEIVED BY DECEMBER 21, 2019, PLUS $35 OFF FOR EACH ADDITIONAL CLASS TAKEN (not applicable to the bata de cola class).

Winter Classes will culminate in the annual student recital, Saturday, April 27, 2019, 7:00 pm, at the Madison East High School Auditorium.

Beginning Class- tangos
Students will learn the basics of the “baile flamenco”, which include footwork, arm & handwork and turns. Besides technique, choreography and combinations for tangos will also be taught.

Fee: $210, 14 classes

Advanced Beginning Class- garrotín with the sombrero Cordobés
In this class, students will continue to build their knowledge of flamenco dance through more challenging technique exercises. Choreography and combinations for garrotín with the sombrero Cordobés (Spanish hat) will also be taught.

*Intro to flamenco dance required. Hats will be sold in class.
Thursday, 7:00-8:15 pm, Jan 10-April 18, 2019, no class March 14.

Ongoing Intermediate Class- continuing
Monday, 5:30-7:00 pm, Jan 7-April 22, 2019, no classes March 11.

Sevillanas Class- continuing
Students will learn choreography for the festive sevillanas dance. The sevillanas, which is danced in partners, is popular at fiestas and nightclubs and is traditionally danced at La Feria de Sevilla (the Seville Fair). Students will concentrate on the third and fourth coplas (movements) in the winter semester. Partners not necessary.

*Intro to flamenco dance required or consent of instructor.
Wednesday, 8:30-9:30 pm, Feb 20-April 24, 2019, no class March 13.
Fee: $122, 9 classes

Castanet Class- continuing
In this class, students will learn basic castanet technique, rhythms, and exercises, plus focus on adding castanets to classical dance combinations and choreography.
*Castanets sold in class.

9:30-10:45am, Feb 24-April 14, 2019, no classes March 10 & 17, April 21.
Fee: $143, 11 classes scheduled, pay for 10

Bata de Cola Class- continuing
In this class, students will concentrate on learning how to manipulate the bata de cola effectively. Exercises and choreography will be a large component of class.
*Consent of instructor required. Students are expected to provide their own batas.
